Dental Care

Healthy Smiles, Healthier Lives

While our pets’ dental care may look different from ours, the goal is the same. Regular dental care helps to prevent dental disease, which can affect your pet’s overall health.

What does your pet’s smile say about their health?

They say a smile is the window into the soul. Like us, our pets’ dental health can tell us a lot about their overall health. Dental disease affects up to 70-80% of dogs and cats by the age of three. Left untreated, dental disease can lead to pain, infection, and impact organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys.

Our pets are masters at hiding illness and pain. When you bring your pet in for a wellness check, we take the time to look for what they can’t tell you, such as early signs of discomfort or disease.

Signs Your Pet May Need Dental Care

  • Bad breath
  • Dropping food or difficulty eating
  • Red, swollen gums
  • Excessive drooling
  • Pawing at the mouth
  • Changes in behavior (quiet, irritable, less playful)

From Checkup to Cleaning, We’ve Got You Covered

We know how busy life gets. Between kids’ routines, work, and caring for your pets, it’s easy for dental care to slip through the cracks. But keeping up with your pet’s dental health early on makes a big difference. It’s easier on them, helps prevent pain, and is far less costly than treating advanced dental disease. Let us take this off your plate by helping your pet maintain a healthy mouth and a healthier life.

Here’s a clear path to a healthy mouth:

Step 1: Dental Check During Your Pet’s Wellness Exam

During your pet’s wellness exam, we will gently examine your pet’s mouth. We look for signs of dental disease on the surface. Below is a chart that helps to identify different stages of dental disease in cats and dogs. Our team takes the time to discuss their findings during this initial check. Dental X-rays and professional cleanings allow our team to get a look at what is happening below the surface, often where disease is hiding.

Step 2: Professional Dental Cleaning

(Whether as a preventive measure or to treat disease that’s already begun, cleanings protect your pet’s comfort and long-term health.)

Professional dental cleanings are recommended not only for pets showing signs of dental disease, but also as a preventive step for those who aren’t. Unlike people, pets’ dental cleanings require a little more care. Your pet’s safety and comfort are always our top priority, which is why cleanings are performed under anesthesia. We know the thought of anesthesia can feel scary, but rest assured that our experienced team carefully monitors your pet throughout the entire procedure to ensure they are safe, comfortable, and well cared for from start to finish.

Safety:
During your wellness exam, our veterinarians will explain the goals and process of your pet’s dental procedure. For pets that are at risk or when recommended by our team, your pet will have its blood tested before anesthesia. This screening helps us evaluate organ function and overall health, ensuring that it’s safe for them to undergo the procedure. With this information, we can personalize the anesthetic plan to your pet’s needs and provide the safest, most comfortable experience possible.

The Dental Procedure:
Your pet will be monitored at all times, and our team will always be by their side, from the time the procedure begins to the moment they open their eyes to begin recovery.

During the procedure, we take dental X-rays to look beneath the gumline for signs of disease that can’t be seen during a regular exam. A complete professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar both above and below the gums, helping prevent pain, infection, and long-term health issues.

If we discover unhealthy teeth or teeth causing pain, our veterinarians may need to perform extractions to remove them, but only with your permission. This is always done with your pet’s comfort in mind, and our team will walk you through the findings and treatment plan.

Step 3: Recovery

As your pet gently awakens from their dental procedure, our team will be right by their side, closely monitoring, managing any discomfort, and providing comfort throughout recovery. Once your pet is fully awake and cleared, they’ll be back in your arms, ready to rest and heal at home.

Our team will provide clear instructions for at-home care and what to expect during recovery.
Thanks to our in-house pharmacy, you can leave with the medications your pet needs right away, without the extra trip or wait. This ensures your pet’s treatment can begin immediately, and you have the peace of mind knowing everything is handled in one place.

We’ll also follow up with a phone call to check on your pet, answer any questions, and ensure they’re healing comfortably.
