Our Story
Our Story
Mid Island Veterinary Practice was founded in friendship and a lifelong love for animals. Dr. Courtney Massa and Dr. James DiGiuseppi, both Staten Island-born and raised, began a friendship while attending vet school. From day one, they knew they wanted to one day open their own veterinary hospital that provided compassionate and neighborly care to the communities that shaped them.
Working side by side at several practices across Staten Island helped guide their philosophy in veterinary care, which they bring to Mid Island today. It’s a philosophy centered on compassion, with care that is personalized, flexible, and accessible to the community they serve. Here, veterinary medicine is free from corporate checklists and one-size-fits-all plans. Every pet is unique, just like the family that loves them.
When it came time to open their doors, the choice was clear. The practice sits in a convenient mid-island location, making it accessible from every side of Staten Island. Across the street, parks and fields provide a familiar place where pets and families already gather. With easy parking, multiple entrances for anxious or reactive pets, and a quieter, less crowded setting than many city practices, Mid Island was designed with both pets and their people in mind.
What started as a dream between two friends is now a place where neighbors come together for the care of their pets, and it’s a story we’re honored to continue alongside the pets and families of Staten Island.
