More about Dr. James DiGiuseppi

Owner & Veterinarian

Dr. James DiGiuseppi is a founder and partner at Mid Island Veterinary Practice, with special interests in Medical Oncology, Soft Tissue Surgery, and Internal Medicine. Born and raised in Staten Island, he always knew he wanted to build a career that allowed him to give back to the community that shaped him.

His decision to pursue veterinary medicine grew naturally from two lifelong passions: a love for animals and a love for science. For Dr. James, becoming a veterinarian was the perfect way to unite both and make a meaningful impact on the pets and families he cares for each day. “I figured since I loved both, I could make an impact in my community and for the animals I love by becoming a veterinarian,” he shares.

Dr. James earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Sacred Heart University before attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, later completing his clinical training at the University of Florida. Since graduating in 2019, he has practiced in his hometown of Staten Island, originally working with dogs, cats, reptiles, and small mammals. Today, he offers advanced surgical and medical care for dogs and cats at Mid Island.

One of his most meaningful memories at Mid Island is the day he treated Brewski, a cat suffering from bladder stones. When Brewski’s family learned the surgery was unaffordable at a specialty hospital, Dr. James and the team stepped in—staying late after hours to perform the procedure the very same day. The surgery went smoothly, and the overwhelming gratitude from Brewski’s family reminded Dr. James exactly why he chose this profession: to help pets who need him and support the families who love them.

What he loves most about his work is the ability to help animals while making a real difference in his community—a purpose that guides him every day.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. James enjoys spending time with family and friends and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles.
